Day 345
10:51 pm
–
this is why
–
to see the burns, to approach
the fire
when flags become one-way
plane tickets
when flags are blankets for some
and ropes to the rest
when flags become hands that
pry shoulders from 2am beds
when flags are sea-facing planks
to the tired, poor, and weary
when flags become blindfolds,
gags and wires
when flags are steel bars, metal
handcuffs and copper brooms
when flags become puppets who
offer up string
this is why there is fire, this is
when there are burns
