Day 19
2:42 am – 3:42 am

ode

“When was the last time you danced?
Come rock with me, baby…Dance with me darlin’
…Step with me, sweetheart…The world is watching” – Gnarls Barkley

Here
We are home
Where else is there to go
No one knows anyone the way you know someone on the dance floor

Aah
look at them
out of the corner of every eye
people watching is a splendid act
white t-shirts and jeans all in a kindred circle
short dresses, tank tops, mini skirts, and high heels
button downs, lace-ups, flats, and suspenders
everyone looks
so damn hot
literally
sweaty
and
brilliantly
sexy
in their smile
in their skin
their quick glances
private grins
and pouting lips

there’s the new kid
spinning with a gained confidence
as everyone gives him a nod

there’s the fresh pack
dancing as they should
like there is no tomorrow

and the old school is vital
in the mix of the 80’s and late 70’s
simply because they really did live it

we all look around
there is so much
fanciful fodder

the loner
who’s a new drinker
who likes watching his shadow

the one
in the hat
moves like she knows

the fanny pack
around the little black dress
everyone turned around to look at her
when she took off her little kimono jacket
no one has seen a fanny pack
look that good in long time

the guy
with spasmodic moves
well we all know him
we laugh
and he makes the most awkward
feel better

and
me
i am just like the last DJ
to close out the night
happy
just
literally
so damn happy
grinning
in the glory
of my sweat
deep
in the skin
of my element

Here i am
Home

Here
Is where I
Call out to the world
No one knows me better than the way they know me on the dance floor
