Day 79
8:07 pm – 8:39 pm

Spin

So you had died, so what
She really needed you to show up
Don’t tell me it’s not possible
I’ve seen a record player spin at
Mere mention of a dead man’s name
Just minutes after we returned
To his family’s home post-funeral
He loved music, the daughter said,
He was the one who used that
Player and there it went,
Spin, spin, spin

You knew it, I know you did
How could you have missed us
Flying across country and
Driving up the state just to have
Some kind of contact with you
It didn’t seem to matter to her
The way it did to me how much
Money and how many miles
Were spent on trip after trip
What a journey watching mom,
Spin, spin, spin

Sure it was unusual, but who cares
Who was I or anyone to say
A clairvoyant or psychic or
Medium or memory therapist
Could never work
I figured no matter how absurd
You were sure to show somehow
I can’t believe you never did
The thought won’t stop reeling
In my head and there it goes again
Spin, spin, spin
