Day 94
9:05 pm – 10:25 pm

even the past wants
to forget about him
it is true, my friend
it makes sense

i found some useful
the other day after
going through the
Portal to Tactile History

They keeps things there
you know,
like libraries,
therein is a section that
was added at some point
to their basement floors,
the Dungeon Microfiche

in no form of glory, either
what is stored there
are the histories of
True Criminals

the ones who
crouch in fear and
stalk with greed
trapping souls
in order to
crush identities
so they can
control them
and steal their hearts
a very valuable thing
even in this day and age

i knew i would find him there

underneath mildew and webs
in a flickering fluorescent
greenish grey light

the Dungeon Microfiche
two old photos
of each criminal

one at a moment
when they were
full of light
(playground castles,
singing swings,
laughing trees)
one at the moment
right after
they were robbed
of their spirit

decrepit as this
basement was
there were no photos
showing the hands
of the damaged
who damaged them

but there he was
your old love

and no surprise
i did see the
i came to know

i saw
the happy child, too

it was unfamiliar
it was uncomfortable
i looked around the room
and smelled the scent
of mold and tears
things were both undone
and finished there

you could see
even the library
wants to forget
about him
it’s true, my dear
and now it all
makes sense
