Day 105
3:06 am – 3:41 am

they want me to
focus on the
exact cut i will make
for a tiny sliver
to go on a small
piece of old china

they’d like me to
pay attention
very closely
to the small bits
of crust for its

and to the seeds
of the olallieberries
for the way they
are drowned
in thick
corn syrupy sauce

i want to
push away the slice
for a second
so i can concentrate
on the whole pie
and then i can

take a look
at the pan and the
oven it was baked in
then move on to the
bowl where it was mixed
at which time i will

address the oven
its temperature
who opened it and
turned it on, who bought
the ingredients and
where they got it all from

don’t proffer me
a knife when i want
to use the rolling pin
don’t give me a slice
when i want to
bake the whole damn pie
