Day 131 – bites on her lower lip

Day 131
4:44 pm – 5:09 pm

bites on her lower lip

a needle asks
questions of an arm
and supplies an
expensive answer in return

cold clinic home to the
rainy river line drains itself
in to a pool of still wishes
back to the parking lot

the weary white coats
still look far better
starched than the old
flannel on the little girl

her cough stains laced
with nose blows dot
shapes of butterflies
on her pilled sweatshirt

her puffy face hot from
a relay race of tears
stares at the tiny tube
drawing her blood

everyone needs tests today
no one wants to be here
dreams of sleep line her head
as she waits for her lollipop
