Day 145
11:00 pm – 11:38 pm

porcupine past time

the top of your
head was
usually short
and spiky
against the palm
of my hand,
i liked
making circles
on it

how a detail
will come
in a moment
of thought on
how little
we see of
each other
these days

when once
our worlds
were splayed
before each
couldn’t get
of the tip
at your tongue

readying for battle
or the
space in between
my heavy
and the inevitable

we were making
love and
i thought
of porcupines,
thinking they
might be
gentler than
they look

and for
a second
i wondered
if there might
come a time
when i would
not remember
how you feel
with me,
sharp to the
softer in
