Day 152
6:12 pm – 7:02 pm

A.A.F. S.O.L. – 2) First Aid

Even though the
truck left the scene
quickly for fear of
tracking dirt behind
its knees
it will be back
it has to be
there are people
waiting here
for goods, medicine,
vials of golden syrup,
and the types of bandages
that adhere more sufficiently
than promises

until then
our breath will hold in disbelief
alongside speechless television
cameras

echo chamber chests
will linger
side by side
in a swollen line expanding
in the open field they had
cleared to receive
anxious cardboard boxes

all will sway,
still,
watching the rubber
swallow itself as it races
toward a phantasm of freshwater
lakes laced with tulips and turnip leaves

while bellies in the village
will water themselves
to grow weeds
