Day 169
3:39 pm – 4:18 pm

seekers never settle

in a $2 collection
of housemade
pages resting at
the right hand
corner of the
bottom shelf,
coffee cup sets
on sale off to
the side of a
register in
Redondo Beach

hanging on a wall
above the mini
cactus plants
at the side bar
pressing up
against wifi-ers
in Costa Mesa

pinned to the
cork board
of a hallway
on your way
to cool
concrete floors
of a spacious
set of bathrooms
in Eagle Rock

art as announcement

the hatchback
meant for
supplies, but
really for his

the washing of
dishes for her
friend’s new
small business,
but also the
fodder of her
next book

sitting in meetings
with dismal
funding for her
but a plethora
of material for
the characters
in her webisode

art as reality

an addition
to her arts program
that looks good
to the parents,
while the kids
get an
special with
a space
to read
their poems

a way to make
their heads
turn and bodies
move together,
he puts
peace curriculum
and lessons
on justice
right in to their
mp3 players

a hippie throwback
in spirit,
he shows up
as substitute
teacher just trying
to make it through
the day and ends
up leaving
with the stories
for his heart

art as necessity

seek, search,
get lost
on purpose,
making changes
to this place
hoping to find
each other
along the way
