Day 181
8:08 pm – 8:25 pm

ms. oklahoma

capricious at her worst
and that is why he loves her

monomaniachal at his best
and that is why she needs him

who else could save
her from her fears
of the mundane
but the one
who could be gone
any minute

don’t push too hard
he warns
so that is exactly
what she does

on purpose

how else
can she be sure
he stays around
because he
wants to stay around

he can secure her
toothbrush
but doesn’t quite
know how to say
i love you

she’s left her family
her home
her responsibilities
to live in some
beautiful back woods
country
where he cleared an
entire range
to build her a home
with his bare hands
to save himself
the grief of having
to communicate
on his emotions

who needs words
when you have a
handmade lake

she’d fancied once
to build him a dam
and he’s the one
they’re both convinced
could show her how
