Day 194
5:02 pm

amuse bouche

The little guy
Folded himself
Into an envelope

Came sailing
Right through
My mail slot

He didn’t trust
Anyone to see
It all through

His guts, snout
His whistles and
His heart

No way he could
Let this pass,
He confessed

We had to witness
The show’s
Premiere

Me the chef
And he
The stir fry

Why not
But watch the cool
Follow the sizzle

If only to eat
Leftovers designed
To kill

Industrial Street

be love
yoga
sandwiched
in between
BIG STAR
chums with
BAYER

Secret Service
oversees

a black and white cat
a French bistro
black slacks and
white longsleeves
who convene at dusk

people actually do
live here

in and out of loud
steel gates they walk
with a casual pace
to their

Smart cars
Fancy clean cars
Carefully locked cars

the only people of
Color I see walking
on the street are
the ones rushing
to clock in by 5
at the restaurant

Kaya Simone

Waves her plastic fork with an
empowered smile

Doesn’t even ask, just grabs
while the aunties look for a knife
Each lick of frosting off the
candle ends happens quickly
with a raised brow and a
knowing frown

All the kids,
Professional Saturday-in-the-park
Birthday-Partygoers,
gather ’round her
eager, but they know their place

Every kid has their day

She gets all the trinkets
from the top
and swipes the sides
in bold strokes with her fingertips

Better hurry with those plates
forks and knife

Her sideways glance says it all

You can have a piece
but this muffukah belongs to me

Hello, Kitty
