Day 197
1:20 am

why you awoke in a cold sweat

Jewel sat me down
to let it spill

someone was a
bad boy for over
the better part
of half a year

like metal
to granite
to wood

words juggled about
pop rocks at the
bottom of her throat
unpolished agate
at the back of
her mouth
to explode
and light fire on
the toothpick
at the tip
of her lips

and boy,
was she aflame
wish you
could have seen

Jewel showed me
two things

pieces of jagged glass
from an old frame
that she’s thinking
to stick in her eyes

pins and a sock
full of cotton
with your wrinkled
picture stapled on top

she’s going
to make a choice

there’s no need
to think twice
about this

if i were
i would
