Day 219
4:40 pm

for the kitti show and tell

thank goodness and the
existence of cats
for the gifts of
and perspective

little Ollie
stands on his
blue stool when
he wants Greenies

Peanut makes
biscuits for ten minutes
to get comfortable
on the couch

Honey Cat
crawls underneath my
legs when it’s hot outside
and she needs shade
but still wants human

when i am
by this world
and this career
and the work ahead
and does anything i write
make sense
and next steps
and call this person back
and pay mom for the
Orkin bill
and where did the money go
and i’ll never get that
investment returned
and the mic stands are broken
and when is that check
coming in

i need something
to help me take a step
take a deep breath
these days
if i all of a sudden
to smile

it’s often
because i’ve
just spotted the
breathing belly
of one of my cats

and what is simpler?

pinkish, brown with dirt, paws
clean fur
a wet nose

twitching when they reach REM
in their dream cycle
watching them eat a treat or
a catch a mouse in their sleep
touching my face in the
morning when they want
me to get up

the desire to be fed
with clean water,
good food,
and lots of love

exorbitant amounts
of sleep

as children provide
the answers to future
kitties point me
to definitions
of basic
desire and need

so i breathe better
smile wider
pause everyday
