Day 221
7:12 pm

Remember that shit?

They called it Bamboo Lane

They wanted to call it Community
Space

They should have called it
A Collective for Collecting Rent
(while we hang back and be studio artists)

That’s how it came out,
Anyway
Big bad taste left the room cold
and inevitably
Uninhabited past a few months

And
PEOPLE were THERE

Remember?
That first meeting?

Collective, no,
But a great gathering
Of what we called
Potential

(Let’s just say they had
names like John, Leslie,
Steve, Ryan, Glenn,
Edren, Daren, Jenny,
Kennedy, Geneva, Joe,
Wanda, phloe, Noelle…
Nice names,
Good names.)

I didn’t know if I could trust you
and
You probably didn’t know if you
Liked me much

We’ve grown from that time

We all make mistakes

And now we know better
About things like
Compassion
Forgiveness
and what we do
When we say
Family

But do you remember
That time
Before we could laugh about it

Shit was kind of crazy
And not at all cool

tkk

Chickens come home to roost

Nobuko and her friends took to
Shelter via El Comite
When they introduced
Her to vacant
Storefronts on the
Upper Westside in New York
In the seventies

What if someone said

Here you go

For a time

What would we do

Who would we be

Individuals, seizing space
to purport themselves, take it all
For all it’s worth for
As long as it lasts? Becoming
Popular and everyone’s friend?

A community of art scientists
Practicing “family”?
Experimenting with creating
On behalf of everyone, making
Way for each, for themselves,
To be changed by the process?

We shall see

We shall see

tkk
