Day 258
12:32 am

a soldier
a senator
Miss October
a gold medalist
a rock star
an astronaut
an American Idol

have immigrants
“made it”
once one of our girls
has been crowned
a beauty queen?

so long as she’s sitting pretty

just keep her stinky uncles
in Guantanamo

ban her fat sisters in Arizona
from studying
about their colorful

make her minuscule cousins
cry for protection
at their public
schools in Philly

so long as she believes in the
American Dream
so long as she’s beautiful
so long as progress remains
