Day 259
11:45 pm

Between me and 6th Street

There is a hard truth to bear
in my love for this city and
my desire to be a better person

I understand you might say we
do the best we can do
and I think I do

most of the time

But the facts remain

I drive east on 6th at night
I see people clutching themselves in the cold
I send them a private wish
I wonder if there are enough sleeping bags
I know there are not enough sleeping bags
I didn’t do anything for them yesterday
I probably won’t do any better by them tomorrow
I keep driving
