Day 321
12:25 am

view from the conductor’s bridge

fire sticks

she believed those were
fire sticks
she held in her hands

raging, brazen,
she instructed
her music to yell
at the wind

notes screamed
tales built into
volumes that could fill
the entire Public,
any and all of them,
the theatre, the library,
the market

but the pit never
recognized her
compositions
though
she needed
them as much as
they forgot her

so her final piece
would be the
loudest

and even still,
no one would really
ever notice

unless she set fire to
those batons

unless she set fire
to herself

and she did

and fire sticks hurling
toward the water
under the bridge
remained dim
