Day 356
8:30 pm

a student in exercise

He never writes
You can tell
Not by way of hesitancy
Or blank stares at an open page
There was none of that
You can tell

He was engaged in the moment
Writing as if lightning nudged
His elbow and memory tugged
His heart to honesty across
That paper

To write of longing
On the simple way
A long lost love
Uttered his name

There would be no way of me
Knowing
(had he not thrown it away,
had I not picked it up out of the
trash)
That he landed
On
Himself

Taken aback by his reflection
Beauty buried and hidden
That he wrote truth
Was too much to
Keep for himself
That you much
You can tell
