Day 10
10:38 pm

Standby

We see her drowning
atop solid ground
and have nothing
for her in return but
downcast eyes and
heaps of hope

What does she wish for?

To sleep

In her moon pool

And maybe

Someday

Fall awake

To see
a sky that has found
a reason to represent stars
again

Until then

She will stay nested in
her cocoon, allowing her lungs
to widen once in a while
It is one breath at a time these days
and we will ask for no more
than that

She owes nothing to us
and our well-wishing,
empty hands

Sometimes

How much we want for better
has nothing to do
with healing

Leave her to her silence,
to any bit of relief from
clouds by the silk she
threads with her own
hands,
for now
we
do nothing else but wait
