Day 13
9:13 pm

like incense

i like incense, i watch
its fog roll across the tops of
wiry hair and bald heads of
laden mourners

for all its attachment to ceremony,
to all accustomed to aging and
passing, there is calm
and reverence therein

it travels like contemplation,
like checklists, like lines through
the names who are no longer
due their koden

it calls me to pay attention
to homage, in kind,
in community, to its existence,
its mere purpose

like death, which has
become something to
neither like or dislike,
but to watch
