Day 27
8:00 pm

on the surface of pebbles

it is wondrous to the touch,
my fingers moving over
water on the surface of a
gravestone

I would like to keep my
hands there, washing
themselves, and stone,
in peace

but it is not long before I
find myself wishing she
would forget her pain from
your years together long
enough to come join me
for a picnic here with you
and listen to the wind
chime hanging above us

and so, not long before I
see how her memories
become her wishes that
turn in to a shovel in my
hands

there are lessons there,
lessons to be told

1. we built a shallow pond
over your grave

2. wind, like tears, erode
surfaces over time

3. even the old birch calls
for a sea change
