under tremendous pressure
by the People Body Artists,
the state lifted an old ban on
Self Determination and set
an unprecedented mandate
with a new quota for

it has been decades in the
making, but the results of the
Human Caving study are in
and all evidence points to
people pausing all activity
once a day to set out for

Mud Ash has accumulated
above our city and there is
nothing left but to acknowledge
the practice of direct action
upon dreaming has been found
to undeniably penetrate the

until further notice, all persons
shall suspend pursuits that are
of detriment to this initiative –
road rage; violence against
one, some or all; jumping out of
buildings; hiding food, self or



we will be reminded
to lift our chins to the
halfway hidden moon

and let our lids close,
eyes dive, lungs smile,
tears rush, chest laugh,

a hearty
laborious laugh

and again
and again

until we come upon
our truest wish

our whimsiest whimsy
our noblest dream

the signage is posted
everywhere, i assume,
because they think we are
sure to forget, to confuse
the practice with fodder for

i think, we’ll keep our daily
quota, they just have no idea
they’re dealing with hungry
spirits, and as the sun sets at
6:21 today, i’m pretty sure i am
