Day 63
10:05 pm

grace

“…sometimes god calls out to me
to come home, ‘cuz I feel so all alone
…your love’s my only saving grace”
-Meshell Ndegeocello

he
keeps his body for the stage,
remembers how he once
felt the inner boil moving to
grab at his ankles, drag his
heels to the undertow of glass
mirror waves, make his heart
grow with a stilted, grating gait,

he
was never a she, only
by the accounts of others

he
may have hid for a while but held
conference with his true reflection
from the time he was a child

so we speak
he
and love him for having
us say what is
natural
to definitions that surfaced as
a spark somewhere between
land and constellation at the
moment of his birth

it is our way of knowing him,
it is his way of speaking truth
to waters that were never calm
until he offered allowance to his
grace
