Scale – 23 – universe

the universe
need only
be small

for
magnificent
things

like a passionate romance,
a fresh, homegrown meal,
a girl driving home alone
at night in total safety,
a man of color walking
with humility atop solid
shoulders, a grandma
trusting her jog in the
early morning,
deep, honest love for
every neighbor from
every neighbor,

to make the block, the
neighborhood, city, state,
the entire globe, this
infinite universe
seem
small
from inch to inch
and mile to mile

across every lake and
sea and through every
port and field,
in to every pore and
bit of skin and mass
of heart,

this is how far i will travel

but there are no
guarantees, little time and
scarce sums of money

so maybe this
is why I’ve
been slow

when this is
exactly why
I should hurry

let us bring
a magnificent
universe

to
fruition
