Day 134
7:08 pm

along the river

they say she has a name,
this one who floats trash by her belly
while winking at cyclists and day-hikers,
but they give her a name
to offer her a soul

i don’t know if i’ve ever taken
her up on having a soul, or a name
for that matter,
but i’d like to think i can still
love her

i’ve walked with her,
taken pictures at her side,
but was too smart or too afraid
to take a plunge,
i figured that was
ritual for

‘cuz we all know what sails
inside that city-dwelling river
and i don’t know whether
i’d crawl inside even
if she opened up to
swallow me in
