but they’ve got golden skin

our community dies faster than our identity
when we lose sight

-not of old country
nor eye contours nor even blood-

but the way of our hearts’ history
alongside the struggle of

malasadas from the
White lady selling them
at the Farmers Market
no matter how good they look
