Day 150
9:25 pm

leaning into night

wishes he was
motivated by morning,
envies the early
risers, despises their
righteous exuberance

no one instance of
a cloudy dawn was
to blame, too many
was the problem

…the chilling phone call
in the hollow hour

…the sleepy reach for
old habits with an empty
return

…that day her tiptoeing
pleasantries guaranteed
she wouldn’t be back

…or worse, undecipherable
bleeding of each morning
into the next

but the evening
is rightfully his
as much as he belongs
to it

generous partners to
each other’s darkness,
it is the only time their
freedom fawns over
limitlessness

and so he
smiles with supernova,
exhales in nebulae, as
his return
is with assurance
past twilight

…where escape is
comfortable with itself

…where honesty hurts
less

there with night,
his touch loses
tension,
he kisses
reflection,
they have swallowed
each other whole
