Day 174
4:36 pm

survival – vulnerability

Dearest Walls, Caves and Organs,

You are not welcoming of pleasantries
and thank goodness. In some senses,
though, do you ever yearn for more
coverage from me?

Do I too readily expose the history
otherwise kept dry in your once
precious quarters?

Perhaps I really am my mother’s
daughter, always willing to open the
locks no matter what truth smacks her
straight in the belly. So unlike my dad,
who still shakes his head from his
grave.

I notice the difference in people this
way. You tell the truth and see some
shift away to look for my veil or greet
others who come closer to march
with my parade.

WCC Day 21 – Week 4: Everything under the Rainbow

Two Birds, One Key

There is a reason
why they say,

Si Se Puede

So we might taste these lines
at the tips of our tongues
and swallow their meanings
whole

There is a reason
why they say,

Makibaka!

So we will smell the messages
simmering underneath our
lids long enough to
uncover their strength and
release them into the sky,

There is a reason
why they say,

Be the change you want to see
in the world

So we may be surrounded
by the urgency of words

and mix the blood of struggle
with the passion of love
to create change and
cook up new worlds

There is a reason
why we need
words
to fly

And capture visions
And raise stakes
And fan fire

There is a reason
why we say,

Free two birds with one key

There is a reason
why we say,

No Justice, No Peace
