Day 177
10:05 pm

survival – kits

i need one kitty
make that six
make that six kitties
who will never need
for more food or dry
blankets
who will never get
sick or need teeth
cleaning
who will never die
for that matter

i need a bar of
chocolate
make that a big one
one that never melts
or fades or ceases
to exist or transform
from 86% to
55% with sea salt to
52% with pink
peppercorns

i need a Greg
make that a Watanabe
make that an actor
who judges his success
for what it is, that it
exists
through his
work and his humor,
intelligence and
integrity and his love
for me and the kitties,
and not through the
wavering pay scale
or unsteady
work schedule

i have made a kit
where all of
this
exists

this is not luxury,
damn it

this is survival

WCC Day 24 – Week 4: Everything under the Rainbow
final week for the Women’s Creative Collective Writers’ Workshop

objects

i have three objects on
my left arm

in the form of
characters

they jump up
and scream at me

from time
to time

they were a gift
from my father’s passing

not from him
but from his death

they tell me to
go, to wander,

to travel, to
be

here
in this moment, now

to remember
why i asked them

to live there
in the first place
