Day 179
10:05 pm

survival – kits 3

Give me an Ella
and a Billie and a Nina,
make that an Ella
and a Billie and a Nina with
every collection of their every
moment of scat, riff,
resonance and trill
to have at my hands,
within reach of my
wandering, hunkering
hankerer of a mind that
wonders of their wonder,
perplexes at the thought
of their absence in this
day and age of music,
and
if they never were…
if they never were!!

Make that an Ella, Billie
and Nina writing
together
in rotation for
one
verse,
only one that
they will sing to the rest
of us tomorrow,
in an open courtyard
on a plane hanging at
the side of the world,
for each and all who
have heard,
who have never heard,
their voices

Give me a kit
I can open to share
and have us hear them all,
all of us at once to
all of them together
for one moment
that will last us the
rest of our lives and
wonder no longer
how any
one
could ever live without
song

WCC Day 26 – Week 4: Everything under the Rainbow
final week for the Women’s Creative Collective Writers’ Workshop

paper cuts

one hundred sixty eight million, cut

six hundred sixty four billion, check

slice by slice
slight by the light of the military budget
to the tune of what they’ll fund for our art
but

no
one

could live

one
day

with the
complete void of ability,
of the grace,
of
knowing
notes, brush, toe,
marley, spray, canvas,
drum skin, string, wind,
barre, proscenium, scrim,
lens, cel, frame, parchment,
mallet, hammer, head,
monograph, seam, textile,

to only know
the stripping
of every last
expressive cry
in
exchange for a new
P-8A Poseidon

the peeling apart

of all story

of

knowing story

of knowing what
really
keeps
hearts moving

let’s imagine
cut by cut

however slight by the light of one eye
to the tune of the next battle

let’s imagine

our words
our dance
our
songs

complete
in
their
vanishing
