Day 204
2:52 pm

the last time he was over
we were much closer than
loose condolence hugs

but of all the doors purposely
closed, he strolled into my
bedroom to use his phone,

went looking for remnants
of my wave underneath his
in the shadow of my old bed,

peeked into the bathroom
to check on the relationship
between two sinks

he came back out to the
living room to find me focused
on the meeting, talking

as if i did not notice where
he’d been, leafing through our
past to consider any future

like i barely noticed how he
left his scarf hanging there, a
kid pretending to sleep when

it was time to go home just
in case we’d agree to a slumber
party between old friends

like i wouldn’t notice it later,
let it sit there and apologize
by staring at it for hours
