Day 241
8:27 pm

quarry of light

the flower before the budding
just as the leaf cracks its
shell, the branch,
the roots cough and request
to be drowned in order to
feel quenched, and introduce
their beauty to neighboring

i wish to be unabashed in
my request for the meeting
of nourishment and light,
to call upon my growth
simply because the
summer beckons
and it is the season
to do so

i will ask you to hear my
demands with love, knowing
there is no other way to
quarry my future without
a good shovel, a kind hand
and a desire to draw me
out further

or perhaps i will not wait
at all, and trust it is the way
of things that must move
because they must, because
it is the season for that
