4. The Facts

After a funeral

Many months after

There was a wife
screaming on a kitchen

There was a neighborhood
assuming they understood why

There were letters
There were names
There was a key
There were packages
There was money lost

There was a daughter
floating around at a safe
distance, trying to find a
jail for her mother’s

For every time my mother was
my muse or
as much as I’d like her to keep
that spot now,

There are secrets
and she is not the one
wearing the mask or standing
on the mound

There is a compass
accompanying the shovel
and the questions

There shall be a story about


we are ready to seek the bones
and test our
