Excavation – 11

11. Before that. (centrifuge)

insanity, with all of its spinning glory,
was a demon in its infancy at the top
of my mother’s thirties

she, with patience and time, was simply
a rock who could take it, decades
layered with sediment over a heart
biding time before it had to burst



she was warned to be careful of
splitting her heart from her head

she tried to listen but the girl didn’t
know her own centrifugal force
