Excavation – 13

13. Diagnosis

She asked me for a ride in my
time machine, for she
hated the doctors’ words at
their word and all of my father’s
predictions

She asks me, even now, post-
cancer and cremation, for
a ride back to their
beginning,
to be convinced she was right
all along

My hands, on all accounts,
siphon fuel, tamper with the
odometer, slash the tires
