E – 6 – rewrite

Excavation

6. Preparation / Alluvium
.

.
she is a tiny thing, crouched down on her
knees in farmer pose, runs in the blood,
she prefers patches of earth, they are
usually dry, steady and predictable

from a distance, the typhoon is splendid
for gazing with complete calm

she sits in waiting, her moment is here,
to start asking questions, leaving her spot
to find out what it means to become what
is left, the alluvium of her parents’ past

up close, the water beneath our feet is
never quite as clear
