Day 285
1:19 pm

in a courtyard…

Shadows

The tree above me
creates ghost dances
on the page below me

I can see no more of words,
only the brushes of grey
on parched yellow paper

Movement hints of branches,
cluster of elusive tales
in repertory with the sun
.

.

Ghosts

Unmerited entrance like clouds
pompous in their presence
entitled to the void of definition

Welcoming when in need,
repellent when we are in a rush,
we are just as arrogant

In the quiet of a courtyard,
it would be nice to meet for tea,
both parties upon invitation
.

.

Exchange

The way you can hear
security, boredom or courting
on one end of an eavesdrop

An impressive flow of doting,
amusing to all ears here,
the loss of cool, infectious

I listen to half-conversations
remembering the beginning,
our currents, our ease, and age
.

.

Auto-Tune

To listen through filters
to lyric laying flat on itself
it becomes difficult to think

Or perhaps too easy to think
of power outages, or guns,
of sheer, utter violence

Upon one’s act of brutality
perhaps we will consider
what was on the radio
.

.

Silence

Every corner is a blaring radio,
golf sets and reasons on display
signaling Father’s Day

Each sign is an opportunity
to glare back with distaste,
attachment only to my thoughts

Impulse to shop out of habit,
one more week and it’s over,
I hold my breath until then
